How to unlock bootloader in Galaxy Nexus

Step 1:
Download and install Android SDK from here.

Step 2:
Download Fastboot tool. (Windows, Mac). Linux users can make your own Fastboot tool by clicking here. Paste it onto your sdk tools or platform-tools folder.

Step 3:
Now put your Galaxy Nexus into Bootloader/fastboot mode. To do that Turn off device and hold volume up + volume down + power on.

Step 4:
Now check a red text below “FASTBOOT MODE.”

Step 5:
Now connect your Galaxy Nexus to Computer by using USB Data Cable and let the driver install automatically.

Step 6:
Open a command line and type fastboot oem unlock. A process will start and pop-up a screen. Select “YES” with volume button and then press power button. Now bootloader of your Galaxy Nexus will be unlocked.

  • Samsung Galaxy Nexus
  • Computer running Windows, Mac or Linux
  • Superboot r2 (Download)
  • USB Data Cable

Steps to Root Samsung Galaxy Nexus

Step 1:
Download Superboot r2 from above link

Step 2:
Extract Superboot r2 file into a new folder

Step 3:
Put your Samsung Galaxy Nexus into Bootloader mode by Turning off device and holding volume up + volume down + power on.

Step 4:
You should see this on your screen:

Step 5:
For Windows user, double click on extracted file and ‘install-superboot-windows.bat’

For Mac & Linux users, open a terminal window to the directory containing the files, and type ‘chmod +x install-superboot-mac.sh’ followed by ‘./install-superboot-mac.sh’
